Elliotts Leads the Way with PSA Test Day for employees and customers
During September Elliotts Premier Roofing and Elliotts Builders Merchant hosted a successful PSA Test Day at our Head Office in Southampton, offering free prostate health checks to men aged 40 to 65 across the trade community.
The initiative was part of Elliotts’ ongoing commitment to supporting the health and wellbeing of people working in construction where regular health checks often take a back seat.
What is PSA?
PSA Stands for Prostate Specific Antigen. The PSA test does not diagnose prostate cancer; however, an abnormally high reading can indicate the presences of prostate cancer.
Prostate Cancer generally does not have symptoms, however if you suffer from any of the below:
- Frequent need to urinate, especially at night
- Bursting to urinate, slow flow, difficult or painful
- Stop/start and dribbling, or blood in the urine
The advantages of taking a test are:
- A PSA test is currently the best method of identifying increased risk of prostate cancer in men with or without symptoms
- It can lead to early indication of cancer at a potentially curable stage
- It may reassure you, if test is of a normal result
- What does a PSA test involve?
- A small amount of blood taking from a vein in the arm by a trained phlebotomist
